Mobile checkout scenario
Cathy is the Regional Manager of a chain of gift shops and has recently invested in a PINPOSTM (PINPOS) sales solution with mobile trolley tills. Over 70% of her business is during the Christmas period, so it was clear to Cathy that each shop had to have the ability to scale up their operations and customer pass-through rate during key periods. Retail space inside each shop is very tight, and for most of the year two tills in each shop was sufficient. Cathy realised that having the ability to deploy mobile trolley-based tills in each of her stores at peak times would greatly improve efficiency. Consequently, she invested in a PINPOS solution with mobile trolley tills, with these tills housing a docking station for the PINPOS mobile device, a bagging area, a de-tagging area, and a cash draw.
| 9:00am | Cathy opens up, knowing that this was likely to be the busiest trading day of the year. In preparation, at each shop, two mobile trolley tills are placed in strategic positions with the PINPOS devices mounted into the docking stations - effectively doubling the checkout capacity in each shop. |
|---|---|
| 10:00am | In each shop, the mobile trolley tills are now in full swing and are able to serve customers at the same rate as the standard tills. The mobile trolley tills provide the same functionality as the standard tills, and also feed the same sales data to the back office stock management system. It is also clearly evident that the mobile trolley tills take up significantly less space than the standard tills. |
| 1:00pm | The shop has now been very busy for a number of hours. Due to the fact that the PINPOS mobile devices are in constant communication with the back office stock management system, Cathy can quickly establish that certain key products are running low. Cathy is able to organise the replenishment of the stock on the shop floor, before losing any business. |
| 21:00pm | The end of the trading day has eventually arrived, and Cathy and her team are exhausted. Fortunately, the only tasks left to undertake are to return the mobile trolley tills to the store room and charge the PINPOS docking stations, ready for trading the next day. (The real-time links with the back office stock management system ensure that all sales data has been centralised already.) |
